Born From
Roman Legacy
For over 20 years, we have dedicated ourselves to preserving the authentic Italian Cane Corso — powerful, noble, and built exactly as history and nature intended.
“We focus on those dogs that best exemplify the Italian Cane Corso of years passed — the dogs that would have been found long before the breed was in shows, when they still guarded farms, families, and entire estates.”
Est. 20+ Years
From Humble
Beginnings
Cane Blue Kennel was built from passion, not profit. Over 20 years ago, Frank Bloebaum fell in love with the Cane Corso — not the version found on show podiums, but the original: a working dog of unmatched loyalty, intelligence, and physical power rooted in two thousand years of Italian heritage.
Starting from humble beginnings in Uniontown, Pennsylvania, Frank invested years into studying Italian bloodlines, understanding the breed’s origins, and selecting only the finest pairings. Today, Cane Blue Kennel has grown into one of the premier, award-winning Cane Corso kennels in the country.
As the breed continues to evolve away from its roots, we remain more committed than ever to preserving what made the Cane Corso extraordinary in the first place — before the trends, before the shows, before modern interpretations changed everything.
A Legacy That
Spans Millennia
The Cane Corso’s roots trace to the Molossers — enormous guardian dogs bred by the ancient Greek tribe of Molossi in Epirus. Fearless and imposing, they were revered across the ancient world as the finest war dogs ever bred.
After Rome fell, the Cane Corso settled into life on Italian farms — guarding estates, herding livestock, and protecting families across the peninsula. For centuries they were as essential to Italian rural life as the olive tree itself.
The Società Amatori Cane Corso was founded in Italy. FCI recognition followed in 1996, full recognition in 2007, and AKC recognition in 2010 — cementing the breed’s global return and triggering one of the fastest rises in popularity of any breed in history.
When Rome conquered Greece, legions brought these dogs home and crossed them with native Italian breeds to create the Canis Pugnax. Deployed in battle with armor and flaming oil, the ancestors of the Cane Corso were among history’s first military service dogs.
After two World Wars and the collapse of Italian farming, the Cane Corso nearly vanished entirely. A small group of passionate Italian enthusiasts rediscovered surviving dogs in remote villages of southern Italy and launched one of history’s most remarkable breed revival efforts.
As the breed’s popularity surged, so did the number of breeders who prioritized profit over heritage. Cane Blue Kennel stands apart — still focused on the original Italian type, still committed to the traits that made this breed extraordinary for two thousand years.

Our Breeding
Philosophy
Traditional Type Above All
We breed toward the original Italian standard — not the exaggerated head, not the show-ring silhouette. Our dogs are athletic, functional, and built as the breed was meant to be: capable of the work their ancestors performed for two thousand years. Every pairing is evaluated against historical type, not current fashion.
Bloodline Integrity
We study pedigrees across multiple generations, prioritizing structural soundness, clean health histories, and proven temperament. We do not breed for color, trend, or novelty. We breed for quality — producing dogs that uphold the Italian breed standard and honor the Cane Corso’s ancient heritage.
A Partnership for Life
When a Cane Blue puppy enters your home, our relationship is just beginning. We provide guidance on training, socialization, nutrition, and health for the lifetime of your dog. Our buyers become part of our extended family — and every Cane Blue dog reflects the combined investment of breeder and owner alike.
Frank
Bloebaum
Frank Bloebaum has dedicated over two decades of his life to the Cane Corso — a breed he fell in love with not for its imposing presence alone, but for the extraordinary depth of character beneath. Based in Uniontown, Pennsylvania, Frank built Cane Blue Kennel from the ground up through tireless study, hands-on experience, and an unwavering commitment to the breed’s authentic roots.
His deep knowledge of European bloodlines, structural conformation, and working temperament has earned Cane Blue Kennel national recognition as one of the country’s premier kennels — trusted equally by families seeking loyal companions and experienced handlers strengthening their own programs.
Recognized nationally as one of the premier Cane Corso kennels in the United States, consistently producing dogs that meet the highest breed standards.
Fully licensed and operating to the highest standards of animal care, welfare, and professional breeding practices in Pennsylvania.
Extensive study of traditional Italian Cane Corso pedigrees, preserving the authentic working-dog heritage that defines the breed’s true character and purpose.
“As we watch this breed begin to lose many of the traits we fell in love with, we are more determined than ever to stay the course — to cultivate the very best traditional-style dogs we can.”
— Frank Bloebaum, Owner & Master Breeder
What Makes the Cane Corso
Extraordinary
2,000 Years of Refinement
The name “Cane Corso” translates from Latin as “bodyguard dog” — a fitting name for a breed that served Roman legions in battle, guarded Italian estates for centuries, and proved its character across two thousand years of real-world demands. This is not a manufactured breed. It is a living piece of history.
Intelligence & Trainability
The Cane Corso is not just powerful — it is deeply intelligent and emotionally perceptive. Bred to make independent decisions in the field, Corsos are highly trainable with consistent leadership. They excel in protection work, obedience, tracking, and above all as loyal, intuitive companions who bond profoundly with their families.

Every Puppy We Place
Embodies This
Bred for 2,000 years to guard people, livestock, and property — this instinct is bone-deep, not trained in. Our dogs protect what matters most without aggression or anxiety.
We preserve traditional Italian type — the dogs found on farms and in the hills of Puglia long before the show ring changed everything. Heritage you can see and feel.
